Contemplating the Power of My Expectations

I spent time reflecting on the following passage from Chapter 9, Section II, Paragraph 5 of the Text of A Course in Miracles this week:

The message your brother gives you is up to you. What does he say to you? What would you have him say? Your decision about him determines the message you receive.

The message my brother gives me is up to me? My decision about him determines the message I receive? I knew the truth in these words as soon as I read them, and I realized that knowing their truth placed responsibility on me for embodying this truth in my life.

What Easter Means to Me

Easter — another holiday weekend with religious origins, but what is it all about? The significance of the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ seems to get lost in stories about the coming of the Easter bunny and Easter egg hunts. I have always deeply felt the darkness of Good Friday and the beautiful promise of Easter Sunday, from the time I was very young, but it has only been since A Course in Miracles came into my life that I have found what I believe to be the true teaching of the crucifixion and resurrection. Allow me to share what Easter has come to mean to me, thanks to the wisdom of the teachings in A Course in Miracles. On the surface, the crucifixion seems to demonstrate the worst of attacks upon the man who proclaimed himself the Son of God. Jesus, who taught about God’s Love and who […]

Delving Deeper into Forgiveness

Soaring high on a radiant crest of inner joy and well-being, Feeling exhilarating freedom as I open into my true identity…             … as a Child of God…                         … a perfect expression of His creative power and Love…                                     … and connected through Spirit to all of Creation… Wanting this ride to continue forever,             this wondrous height to carry me always, but I am dashed onto the unyielding rocks of my past,             and left splayed and raw and oozing…                         … pain I thought I had healed,                         … tears I thought I had shed,                         … anger I tried to ignore,                         … and judgement I tried to hide. What message can I find in this pain? What lesson is there in this experience for me to learn? I thought I had forgiven my ex-husband and his wife for the pain […]

Going Deeper with Changing Our Thoughts

Last week, I wrote about having the power to control our thoughts. I shared my post with fellow students of A Course in Miracles, and thanks to their feedback and the clarity I received from further reflection and study this week, I want to correct and go deeper with what I wrote for you in the following paragraph: We do have the power to control our thoughts. Instead of letting our ego minds run away with our thoughts, we need to take control with our spiritual minds. How do we do this? We develop awareness of what is preoccupying our thoughts, one thought at a time. When a negative thought crosses our minds, we need to recognize it, stop it, and experience the stillness that is left when there is no thought… if only briefly, until the next thought comes, which will happen quickly at first. The spaces between thoughts will become longer […]
