How to Free Yourself from Anxiety

Does it feel like anxiety controls and limits you? Do you want to get out, do new things, meet new people, live your life to the fullest, but fear holds you back? Do you feel frozen by constricting bands of fear? If you do, know that anxiety doesn’t need to limit your life; you can free yourself.

You Are More Than Enough — You Are Magnificent!

Do you struggle with feeling that you are enough? Do you find yourself questioning your worth and the success of your life time and time again? What IS that measuring stick against which we compare ourselves and imagine that we come up short or that we are lacking in some way? How do we find and hold on to true knowing of our worth?

The Essential Question

The most important question we can ask ourselves consists of three words: Who am I? Indeed, it is a question that invites regular and frequent exploration and contemplation, and one that has become increasingly essential to my ability to find grounding and peace no matter what is unfolding in my physical life.

What Is That Inner Yearning for More?

Do you sometimes struggle with being in the world? Do you feel like you’re not of this world, that it seems to confront you at every turn, and yet you have to find a way to exist in it? Do you yearn for more, but you can’t seem to find what you seek in the world? I often feel like I’m a stranger here — that I don’t belong — and yet, I’m here. I have to find a way to be in this world, this world that feels too harsh, that often grates against the me that feels so sensitive, so tender, so not of this world.

Grounded in Uncertainty

There is no doubt that we are living in times of great upheaval and uncertainty. For so many of us, it seems that there is less and less to hold onto and to count on in our lives and in the world around us. Waves of change, unexpected losses, and seemingly insurmountable obstacles shadow the lives of so many. As turbulence weaves through the fabric of our lives, we experience fear and anxiety. Where do we turn for the support and security that we can’t seem to find in our outer worlds? How can we stand strong and grounded within the uncertainty that shadows our lives?

The Spiritual Journey Inherent in Change

It seems that change is inevitable in our lives. In fact, if you are like me, when life settles and becomes known, you yearn for change and the growth that comes with it. If you are like me in another way, when you are in the midst of change and everything is in a state of flux, you yearn for the security of what was known. Sometimes I wonder why I can’t be content with routine, with what is known. But there is something within me that calls for change and yearns for the expansion that accompanies it.

What Is True Safety and Security?

What happens when we yearn for change and growth in our lives, and suddenly, we are presented with the opportunity for which we have longed? If you are like me, an inner part of you responds with an excited “Yes, yes, yes!” Then fear kicks in, and your mind starts its flurry of all the reasons why you should retreat and stay where all is known — its version of safe and secure.

Do We Create Our Own Emotional Pain?

Have you believed that you experienced hurt because of the actions and words of another? Have you experienced fear that you will be hurt again? Have you erected inner walls to protect yourself from further betrayal and emotional pain? If you are like me, you can answer a resounding yes to each of these questions. I am beginning to realize that because I believed that others had the power to hurt me, I created circumstances in which I experienced recurring emotional pain.

See Fear For What It Is

Do you seek change in your life? Do you yearn to do and experience more? Do you want to embrace life fully and completely and yet… when that change beckons or when opportunities arise, you shrink from them because of the fear that causes your heart to hammer and your chest to constrict?

Knowing God for Yourself

Are you called to read the writings of spiritual teachers? Do you find yourself eagerly pouncing on their newest offerings, hungry for the words that will take you further on your spiritual quest? Do you note the people whom these teachers quote as further sources for your search? These questions capture my quest over a period of many years. I kept searching and searching, moving from one spiritual teacher to another, digging deeper and developing my understanding of their teachings, but always deferring to these teachers to tell me about God and to inform me about the Divine.
