Grounded in Uncertainty

There is no doubt that we are living in times of great upheaval and uncertainty. For so many of us, it seems that there is less and less to hold onto and to count on in our lives and in the world around us. Waves of change, unexpected losses, and seemingly insurmountable obstacles shadow the lives of so many. As turbulence weaves through the fabric of our lives, we experience fear and anxiety. Where do we turn for the support and security that we can’t seem to find in our outer worlds? How can we stand strong and grounded within the uncertainty that shadows our lives?

The Trust Implicit in Transition

When we are faced with change in our lives, it seems that many of us resist and cling to what is known… even if that no longer serves us. We are filled with fear because change requires that we let go of the edge that we are so familiar with and dive into unknown waters. Letting go and entering these waters requires trust. It requires trust in every moment, every single day… and I am living that call to trust.

What Is True Safety and Security?

What happens when we yearn for change and growth in our lives, and suddenly, we are presented with the opportunity for which we have longed? If you are like me, an inner part of you responds with an excited “Yes, yes, yes!” Then fear kicks in, and your mind starts its flurry of all the reasons why you should retreat and stay where all is known — its version of safe and secure.

Profound Inner Guidance

New responsibilities in my position at work are challenging my fears and insecurities and bringing me face-to-face with more inner work that I need to do. You see, the classroom is my comfort zone, and it is there with my students that I feel secure in the community that we create together and confident in the learning opportunities that I create and present for them. My new responsibilities take me beyond the classroom and involve planning and presenting professional development for my colleagues. Suddenly, the confident, competent teacher falls prey to anxiety that confronts her at every turn — anxiety that plays constant messages of self-doubt and perceived judgment. My old nemesis is back — fear of knowing and embracing my own worth. What learning is there in this for me? As my mind filled with anxious rehashing of what had happened prior to and during my first presentation to staff, I received a clear, direct soul message that told me exactly what I need to do.
