Finding Awareness Doesn’t Equal Happily Ever After
For many years, I hungrily devoured the words of spiritual teachers and sought the awareness of consciousness to which their teachings pointed. My goal was to achieve a state of awareness — to experience the truth of who I am. For so long, I sensed the truth of their words and knew they were signposts guiding me on my inner journey, but I couldn’t find my destination. When I was able to open into the truth of my Being and experience the vastness of my consciousness, I have to admit to feeling a sense of achievement. My ego was still alive and well as I inwardly celebrated my progress. I had found what I set out to find! What a spiritual success story I had to tell! But wait… not so fast, runaway ego. There was more, much more to learn.
How to Free Yourself from Anxiety
Does it feel like anxiety controls and limits you? Do you want to get out, do new things, meet new people, live your life to the fullest, but fear holds you back? Do you feel frozen by constricting bands of fear? If you do, know that anxiety doesn’t need to limit your life; you can free yourself.
Whose Champion Are You?
When you think of being a champion, what comes to mind? Do you think of winning a competition or earning a title? Do you imagine being awarded a trophy or title and receiving the accolades of an adoring crowd? Let’s add two more words and see how the image of champion changes. When you think of being a champion for someone, what comes to mind? Where does the focus go? Who notices? What is the “win”?
What Is True Safety and Security?
What happens when we yearn for change and growth in our lives, and suddenly, we are presented with the opportunity for which we have longed? If you are like me, an inner part of you responds with an excited “Yes, yes, yes!” Then fear kicks in, and your mind starts its flurry of all the reasons why you should retreat and stay where all is known — its version of safe and secure.
Nothing Can Harm the “I Am” That Is Our True Identity
A powerful realization arose within me this week: nothing can hurt my true identity as the spiritual being that I am. Indeed, nothing has ever hurt the “I am” that I am. When I act from the belief that I have been hurt or harmed in any way, I am identifying with ego – with the individual identity I have created in which I perceive myself as separate from you and from everyone else.
My Call to Release My Inner Critic
Are you hard on yourself? Are you your own worst critic? I certainly have been my whole life, and it seems that my body is sending me a strong message that constant self-criticism has not only been hard on my self-esteem; it has taken a toll on my physical health.
Another Lesson Presents Itself in My Life
In spite of the spiritual growth and deepening awareness I share with you week after week, it was interesting to observe how quickly I fell into the clutches of fear when I received unexpected news last night. In previous posts, I have shared with you my experiences with swollen joints and the message to forgive and release past emotional pain that I believed my body was telling me. Swollen, painful joints have continued to challenge me, and I have kept working on forgiveness, innately knowing that suppressed pain and anger were causing the inflammation in my joints. Yesterday, I received a call from my doctor to see her after school regarding test results. Within the space of four words, my day turned upside-down, and the light-hearted, open me began to constrict and tighten inside. “You had rheumatoid arthritis.” The laughter and easy conversation stopped, as images of worst-case scenarios flooded my […]
Always Choose Love
In the face of hatred and violence, our egos scream for retribution. Our egos would have us believe that we are all separate individuals and that we have to protect what is ours, whether that be our loved ones, our property, or our safety. When we listen to our egos, we lash out at others because we are afraid. All acts of revenge begin as fear.
Depression or Suppressed Emotional Pain?
Have you been diagnosed with depression like I was? Were you prescribed anti-depressants as the “fix”? Like me, have you struggled with trying to get off these toxic, dependency-causing drugs? If so, we need to talk… right here… right now. As I am coming out the other side of the final withdrawal and detoxing, I have had some pretty profound realizations that I want to share with you…. no… need to share with you.
The Peace Test
How can you be sure that you are going the right way in life? None of wants to commit to a path and then discover that we made the wrong decision. We all want to feel certain about the steps we decide to take or the way in which we are going. There is one sure way that we can know for sure. It is the peace test, and it comes from Chapter 14, XI, 5:2 in A Course in Miracles: “If you are wholly free of fear of any kind, and if all those who meet or even think of you share in your perfect peace, then you can be sure that you have learned God’s lesson, and not your own.”
