What Is That Inner Yearning for More?
Do you sometimes struggle with being in the world? Do you feel like you’re not of this world, that it seems to confront you at every turn, and yet you have to find a way to exist in it? Do you yearn for more, but you can’t seem to find what you seek in the world? I often feel like I’m a stranger here — that I don’t belong — and yet, I’m here. I have to find a way to be in this world, this world that feels too harsh, that often grates against the me that feels so sensitive, so tender, so not of this world.
Knowing God for Yourself
Are you called to read the writings of spiritual teachers? Do you find yourself eagerly pouncing on their newest offerings, hungry for the words that will take you further on your spiritual quest? Do you note the people whom these teachers quote as further sources for your search? These questions capture my quest over a period of many years. I kept searching and searching, moving from one spiritual teacher to another, digging deeper and developing my understanding of their teachings, but always deferring to these teachers to tell me about God and to inform me about the Divine.
Another Lesson Presents Itself in My Life
In spite of the spiritual growth and deepening awareness I share with you week after week, it was interesting to observe how quickly I fell into the clutches of fear when I received unexpected news last night. In previous posts, I have shared with you my experiences with swollen joints and the message to forgive and release past emotional pain that I believed my body was telling me. Swollen, painful joints have continued to challenge me, and I have kept working on forgiveness, innately knowing that suppressed pain and anger were causing the inflammation in my joints. Yesterday, I received a call from my doctor to see her after school regarding test results. Within the space of four words, my day turned upside-down, and the light-hearted, open me began to constrict and tighten inside. “You had rheumatoid arthritis.” The laughter and easy conversation stopped, as images of worst-case scenarios flooded my […]
Prayer of Thanksgiving
Thank you for loving me through it all —
through all the times I thought I could do things my own way;
through all the wrong turns and stubborn choices that I made in spite of my inner guidance;
through my misguided determination to figure things out for myself.
Spring or Winter — Renewal or Death — Love or Fear?
Happy Spring to everyone who lives in the Northern Hemisphere, and especially to anyone who is emerging from the long months of winter to the promise of spring! The warmth of the sun’s rays and the lengthening daylight hours ignite a palpable yearning for the first sightings of new growth and GREEN. We long to throw off the darkness and cold of winter when we retreat from the starkness and seeming death of our environment. At the beginning of winter, I always welcome the cozy “burrowing in” that happens as we retreat to the warmth and light of our homes. It feels good to nestle in, but after several months, that feeling becomes a soul-deep yearning for the life-affirming changes that spring brings. Yesterday, as I enjoyed the intoxicating freshness of the spring winds and the pungent smells of the earth yielding its frozen bonds to the liberating caresses of […]
Delving Deeper into Forgiveness
Soaring high on a radiant crest of inner joy and well-being, Feeling exhilarating freedom as I open into my true identity… … as a Child of God… … a perfect expression of His creative power and Love… … and connected through Spirit to all of Creation… Wanting this ride to continue forever, this wondrous height to carry me always, but I am dashed onto the unyielding rocks of my past, and left splayed and raw and oozing… … pain I thought I had healed, … tears I thought I had shed, … anger I tried to ignore, … and judgement I tried to hide. What message can I find in this pain? What lesson is there in this experience for me to learn? I thought I had forgiven my ex-husband and his wife for the pain […]
Finding Our Way to CHRISTmas
As we rush about in the mad scramble to get ready for Christmas, how many of us pause to think about what we are getting ready for? Is all the shopping, baking, wrapping, meal planning, party preparation, and more shopping what Christmas is all about? Does the true meaning of Christmas get lost in all the hustle and bustle? As we greet everyone we see with “Merry Christmas,” how many of us contemplate what we are really wishing for others? As we decorate our homes and yards with lights and sparkle, how many of us experience inner light and sparkle? How many of us truly feel the love and joy that this season is supposed to be all about? Instead, we feel pressure to prepare and to be ready to welcome the arrival of friends and family to celebrate this festive holiday. And what about those of us who are alone and who do not get to experience […]
